Fanwood is an independent borough, 1.3 square miles in size, population 7,300, in Union County.  The town is located about 25 miles west and slightly south of Newark.

 Shopping and Dining - The door officially opened to the new retail space at Fanwood Crossing, the new complex of stores at the corner of South and Martine Avenues. Menlo Park mall, a is a two-level super regional shopping mall just 7 miles away.  The upscale Bridgewater Commons Mall which includes Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Lord & Taylor and 160 specialty stores including a movie theater is about 15 miles away. Dine at Oh Brian's Pour House Fanwood’s favorite local Irish Pub to eat, drink and have fun or perhaps The Stage House Tavern which serves American food in a vibrant, rustic setting and is located in nearby Scotch Plains along with many other fine resturants nearby.

 Parks and Recreation – Hilltop Tennis Club located in Fanwood also offers programs for kids such as arts & crafts, spring break sports camps, sports & fitness, and summer camps and programs.  Senior programs are also available.  Close by is the JCC of Central NJ in Scotch Plains which includes a pre-school program, summer camp, fitness center, indoor & outdoor pools, art class, shoot hoops, cook with a chef,or kick back in the café.  The Fanwood Museum, located in the oldest remaining railroad station in Union County, the Fanwood Museum houses artifacts documenting the Borough's historic ties to the Central Railroad of New Jersey and its land development company that constructed some of the Victorian homes that grace the Fanwood Park Historic District.

 Living - Fanwood Borough has a pleasing mix of housing that includes some beautifully restored historic homes. 

 Schools, Health, Transportation - Fanwood's public schools are part of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District. There are six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. A high percentage of high school graduates go to college.   JFK Medical Center is a non-profit 498-bed community hospital, serving residents of Middlesex, Union and Somerset counties in Central New Jersey. With more than 900 affiliated physicians, JFK offers a complete array of advanced services including general and specialized surgery, cardiac care, maternity and pediatric care, and emergency medicine.  JFK Medical Center’s Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI) has been ranked as one of the best hospitals in the nation for 2013-14 for Rehabilitation by U.S. News & World Report. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.  Many residents commute daily to New York City. Fanwood has a station on NJ Transit's Raritan Valley commuter rail line. NJ Transit also has a full schedule of bus service from Fanwood to central and northern New Jersey and New York City.  Newark Liberty International Airport is approximately 25 minutes away.
